Somehow the homework I posted for yesterday didn't get published. Sorry about that. We will continue to work in class on the textbook and notebook, since I don't want to give you more homework as well as a test and report.

1st Quarter Report

Bible/Worldview - 8th Grade
Pioneer Family Academy
1st Quarter Report: Hymn or Christian Song

Assigned: 9/15/16
Due:
Parent initial on this page: Sept. 22
Choice of hymn/song: Oct. 6
Rough Draft: Oct. 20
Final Draft: Nov. 3

You may choose any hymn or Christian song you like. It can be a favorite one of yours, or one that has meaningful lyrics that fit with what we are learning about in this course.

You will need to cover as much as you can about the five “W” questions:
Who wrote/composed it?
What is it about, in your own words?
Where are the writers/singers from?
When was it written/composed?
Why was it written/composed?

If some of this information is unavailable, you can state that in your report.

Please include your sources for information in a bibliography and plan to use at least two sources. One of these sources should be a video or audio of the song to share in class. I have a computer to connect to a screen in class which you can use, or you can bring your own computer in and share from there.

Your report should be no more than one full typed (or neatly handwritten) page, using standard margins and font size.

You will read your report and play the recording of your hymn/song in class on Nov. 3.

First day of class

I enjoyed getting to know everyone today. Here is the class syllabus. I handed one out to the students and also gave out some hard copies for those parents who were able to come to the meeting after class.

PFA 8th Grade Bible/Worldview Syllabus
2016-2017
Mrs. Valorie Jones
Room 202, 12:25-1:25

Class Description:

Biblical Worldview of Servanthood: Who is my neighbor and why does he need me?
Biblical Worldview of Stewardship: What on earth can I do?

Grading:

Tests: 30%, 4 per year
These tests will cover vocabulary, memory verses, and content from the quarter. They will include one-word answers, as well as short answers.
Notebooks: 30%
I will collect the notebooks every other Tuesday and check them, returning them on Thursday of the same week so the students have time to keep up with the lessons.
Quizzes: 20%
These quizzes will cover the memory verses and theme at the end of each chapter.
Class Discussions: 10%
I will look for participation in the class discussions every day since group interaction is one of the best ways to learn and retain knowledge.
Reports: 10%, 4 per year
One per quarter: Hymn or Christian song, Missionary, Pastor/Theologian, Christian book. Students may choose a favorite, or one that they would like to learn more about. They will write a short one-page report including two sources and will share it with the class, including a powerpoint or audio (of the song), if they choose.

I will keep the blog for this class updated with homework assignments and new information as needed. Please check there, especially if you will be absent, so your student can keep up with assignments.

I look forward to teaching this class and will be available for questions before and after class, as well as by email at: vjones@pioneerfamilyacademy.com.
